Cranberries (Vaccinium macrocarpon Aiton) grow almost exclusively in the American Northeast and Midwest, as well as Chile. Cranberries require sandy soil and a considerable amount of water for harvesting, two conditions found in Quebec where cranberries are farmed extensively.
Cranberries are known for their high concentration of anthocyanidins, flavonoids, flavanols, proanthocyanidins, non-flavonoid polyphenols, phenolic acids, and simple organic acids.
Numerous clinical studies have been published to date on the health benefits of polyphenols found in cranberries in the following areas:

  • Prevention of urinary tract infections (UTIs)
  • Prevention of stomach ulcers
  • Improved oral and gum health
  • Reduction of certain viral infections
  • Improved cardiovascular health, neurological health, and joint inflammation
